Plea for cross examination rejected

Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) Panjim on Tuesday rejected application of suspended police inspector Sandesh Chodankar who had sought cross examination Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) forensic doctors in the Cipriano death case.
In his application on January 31, Chodankar had questioned the findings of the team of the forensic department, headed by Dr Silvano Sapeco, as regards to the death of Cipriano.
The suspended cop disputed the findings of the forensic examination and sought to cross examine the doctor. He questioned the court if Cipriano had head injuries why the same not found during the CT scan soon after he was taken to the GMC for treatment.He also maintained the clinical cause and the final cause of death were both contrary.
While CT scan had revealed ‘celebro vascular accident’, the final cause of death stated that Cipriano died due to fatal head injuries. He pointed out further since the deceased was not treated in the neurosurgery ward was indicative of the fact he had no head injuries.
Dr Sapeco had told the Court that the death was caused due to two fatal head injuries.
The 38-year-old Cipriano was on a two-month long vacation at his home town in Goa when he was picked by the Panjim police on January 7 evening.
He was arrested under ‘preventive measures’ after his woman friend complained against him of threatening with a knife at her Caranzalem house.
The non-resident Goan died on the morning of January 9 at GMC with family members holding Panjim police responsible for his killing.
Three policemen including PI Chodankar, police sub-inspector Radesh Ramnathkar and head constable Sandip Shirvaikar were suspended for procedural lapses.
