PANJIM: While there is still no response from the Union Environment, Forest & Climate Change Minister Prakash Javdekar to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant’s letter seeking withdrawal of the environment consent given to the Kalsa Banduri project, Goa Governor Satya Pal Malik has taken up the issue with PM Narendra Modi and the minister.
A statement issued by the Director of Information says that the Governor called on the Prime Minister on December 12, during his visit to New Delhi.
“Governor took up the issue of Mhadei water dispute, especially the environmental clearance given to Kalsa-Banduri water project of Karnataka by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change,” says the release.
It further states that the Governor emphasised upon the importance of Mhadei water to Goa, it being the lifeline of the people of Goa. “The Prime Minister gave due assurance to the Governor that the issue will be resolved shortly,” DI says.
Further, it said, pursuant to this visit, Javdekar, telephonically conveyed to the Governor that a positive solution would be arrived in a day or two.
