Police crack hit-and-run case within 24 hours

PANJIM: The Porvorim Police solved a hit-and-run case involving a 79-year-old woman within 24 hours.

According to police, on November 26 one Laxmi Satpute from Rajaram Puri, Kolhapur, was hit by an unidentified vehicle at Alto Betim, Bardez. The injured woman was shifted to Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC), Bambolim, where she succumbed while undergoing treatment.

The Porvorim Police then formed a team to crack the hit and run case under the supervision of Police Inspector Rahul Parab. The team did meticulous ground work and traced the car involved in the case and the accused driver identified as Himanshu Santu, 21, a native of Uttar Pradesh.

The accused was working as bellboy at a resort at Betim has been taken into custody and an FIR has been registered against him under Sections 281,106(1) BNS 2023 and 3 r/w 181, 134(a)(b) of MV Act 1988 is registered.

The post-mortem examination over the body has been conducted and handed over to the relatives, police said. Further investigation is in progress with PSI Pratik Tulaskar under the supervision of Police Inspector Rahul Parab
