PANJIM: More than four months after his arrest and subsequent bail, Anjuna resident Menino D’Souza ~ caught with a cocktail of drugs from his home village in mid-February – faces fresh bout of trouble as the Crime Branch has knocked the doors of the High Court of Bombay at Goa seeking his bail cancellation.
Fernandes (58) of Prise Wado in Anjuna was caught red-handed with synthetic drugs – 67 grams of MDMA and 9.39 grams of cocaine all worth Rs 7.5 lakh. The CB’s raid was following a tip-off that the man, an accused in a murder case, years ago, would be present at a certain spot with the massive consignment. Herald was the first to report about this raid while information had also revealed that he was with a consignment of heroine arrested some 15 to 20 years back.
His bail in the recent drug seizure prompted the CB team to approach the Directorate of Prosecution seeking legal opinion to cancel the bail, which was granted on ‘technical grounds.’ The matter, which is now in the High Court, is expected to be heard this week.
“He has contacts with several international people involved in the drugs activity. It is an international drug racket, which needs to be unearthed and his custodial interrogation is crucial. Since he also has past criminal record, we decided to move the High Court to cancel his bail,” said an officer.
