PANJIM: Goa Police is yet to receive any communication from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) regarding Australian national Brenton Tarrant, the gunman sentenced to life for killing 51 people, including Indians in two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand back in March 2019.
The Indian intelligence agencies have launched an intensive investigation into Tarrant’s three-month visit to India between November 21, 2015, and February 18, 2016, which is when he also stayed in Goa — the period that incidentally marks peak tourist season in the coastal State.

As per inputs shared by New Zealand counterparts Tarrant, the lone gunman who killed 51 people, including five Indians, in two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand, on March 15, 2019, had stayed in Goa, Mumbai and Jaipur, among the seven-eight places he visited in India, in 2015-16.
Herald spoke to a few senior officers in the Goa Police, who claimed that no official communiqué from the MHA is received so far. “The shooting incident happened more than a year ago, and his holiday in Goa was nearly five years back. It would be difficult to gather prompt information. Although no communication from MHA is come to us as on date, we might deploy our intelligence team to gather information, if possible,” said an officer.
Tarrant largely travelled and stayed in southern States but also spent considerable time in Goa.
Sources said that authorities in India have not found anything that suggests any of his activities in the country linking with the attack in New Zealand.
