PANJIM: A major cause of law and order situations in Goa, it appears, are due to political interference in policing. Do sincere and committed officers have no place in the Goa Police force? Three instances immediately come to mind –the transfer of Mandrem Police Inspector Sherif Jacques, the transfer of Calangute Police Inspector Paresh Naik and the suspension of Anjuna Prashal Desai.
It appears that doing one duty as per the mandate of the police is a crime in Goa. If not why are honest officers being targeted by the higher echelons of police, the government and the politicians?
Three recent instances immediately come to mind.
In the case of the Calangute Police Inpsector Paresh Naik, he was immediately transferred to Goa Reserve Police
His crime –sealing a nightclub Down Town and arresting bouncers at Baga, Calangute
Even, Calangute MLA Michael Lobo making the Police Inpector a scape goat was absolutely wrong.
In the first case Anjuna Police Inspector Prashal Desai was suspended after he disobeyed the illegal orders of the then DGP not to stop the demolition of the Agarwadekar house
Two Police Sub Inspectors Sanket Pokhre and Nitin Naik were also suspended due to alleged lapses in the initial investigation into the Assagao house demolition.
Prashal Desai had blown the lid on the land mafia nexus that was there behind the entire incident.
They were only doing their duty of stopping the bouncers of Pooja Sharma who kidnapped and illegally demolished part of the house without any legal notices.
Later the DGP himself was transferred. Later P I Prashal Desai was reinstated.
In the case of the Calangute Police Inpsector Paresh Naik, he was immediately transferred to Goa Reserve Police
His crime –sealing a nightclub Down Town and arresting bouncers at Baga, Calangute

In the Mandrem Assault case, Police Inspector Sherif Jacques was trasnfered after he immediately filed an F I R after the attack on former sarpanch Mahesh Konadkar.
An order from the Office of SP North stated that P I Jacques had been trasnfered to the North District Reserve Line Force, Porvorim, with immediate effect.
Police Inspector of Mopa Airport Police Station has been directed to look after the Mandrem Police Station.
