PONDA: With the monsoons around the corner, Ponda locals have questioned the timing of the hot mixing of roads carried out by the PWD in the town and wonder whether the work would withstand the fury of the monsoon.
Almost all the roads in the town are dug up for laying sewerage line, gas lines and other development works. The bad condition of the roads in the town has forced the residents to undergo severe hardship. However, following several complaints by locals, the PWD since past two days commenced hot mixing of the main roads in the town.
However, the eyebrows have been raised over the timing of the hot mixing work as the work has commenced with the monsoons around the corner. Locals also question whether these roads will withstand the monsoon fury.
According to former vice chairperson Mahadev Khanolkar, PWD should have carried out the work in March or April. He questioned whether these roads will withstand the first showers. For durability, the roads should be hot mixed at least two to three months prior to monsoon. Though work along the main road is underway, the internal roads are in bad shape.
The PWD officials said it will only undertake road patchwork where ever they have been dug for chambers and laying of sewerage lines.
The locals have blamed the authorities for going slow on sewerage work.
