PANJIM: Two Officers of Directorate of Fire and Emergency Services Ajit K Kamat, Assistant Divisional Officer and Marveyn Bosco Ferrao, Station Fire Officer will be awarded with President Fire Service Medal for Meritorious Service declared by the Government of India, Ministry of Home Affairs on the occasion of Republic Day, Saturday.
Kamat, who has so far completed 33 years of service, joined Fire Service Department in 1985 as Fireman and appointed to the post of Sub-Officer in 1993. Thereafter, he was promoted to the post of Station Fire Officer in 2002 and he is presently holding the charge of Assistant Divisional Officer.
In appreciation of his commendable service, he was awarded the Goa Chief Minister’s Fire Service Medal for Meritorious Service on Goa Liberation Day, December 19, 2008. He was also rewarded with cash award on two occasions and Commendatory Note on six occasions.
Ferrao joined Fire Service Department in 1990 as a Fireman, appointed to the post of Sub-Officer in 2000 and thereafter promoted to the post of Station Fire Officer in 2007. He has completed 28 years of Service in the Department.
During his tenure, Ferrao has exhibited keen interest in executing difficult tasks in the operational field. He was the recipient of Home Minister’s Fire Service Medal for gallantry for showing exemplary courage by tackling a rampaging bull at the Campal Parade Ground on December 12, 2008 when school children and other participants had gathered for rehearsal parade for Goa Liberation Day.
He was also awarded the 17th Godfrey Philips Bravery Award under the category of physical Bravery on June 18, 2009 and also felicitated by the Rotary Club of Panaji Mid-Town on September 28, 2010.
