PANJIM: Goa Forward Party (GFP), the ally in the Manohar Parrikar-led State government has spread its wings in BJP dominated Mayem assembly constituency. The party, however, has said that they would not intrude into the works of BJP MLA Pravin Zantye.
GFP on Friday announced their Mayem block committee under President Pradeep Naik. The party has also decided to constitute booth level committees across all 44 booths to expand and strengthen its base in the constituency.
Addressing media persons, GFP Vice-President Durgadas Kamat said that party wants to expand its base in Mayem, Cuncolim and Ponda assembly constituencies. “We will also intrude into those constituencies, where we get good candidate and people support. The entire thrust is to strengthen the party,” he said.
Kamat said that though the party has laid its focus on Mayem constituency under its leader Santosh Sawant for the past few months, it is in no mood to disturb the existing work of the BJP MLA. “In fact, we are working together for the betterment of the Mayem people. We are in coalition and will maintain the coalition dharma,” he commented.
When asked, then, what’s the idea behind expanding base in Mayem, Kamat said, “We want to reach out to the people with the schemes of the departments, which are headed by our Ministers. We want to ensure that the people in the villages get the benefit. We are working for the welfare of the people and for that we need to have a strong party base.”
Later, Sawant said that party is working towards building the organization right from grassroots level as directed by the President Vijai Sardesai. “We are sure that in coming days Mayem constituency will be under GFP,” he commented.
