Mumbai: A proposal to establish a direct water transport link between Sindhudurg and Goa has been put forward, with the aim of improving coastal connectivity and boosting tourism in the region.
The plan includes the development of a jetty near Chipi Airport in Sindhudurg, which would serve as a key point for a direct water transport service connecting the district with Goa. The initiative is expected to provide a faster and more convenient travel option for tourists and residents alike.

The proposal was discussed during a meeting chaired by Nitesh Rane, Maharashtra’s Fisheries and Port Development Minister, in Mumbai. Officials and stakeholders reviewed the potential benefits of the project and its role in strengthening transport infrastructure along the Konkan coastline.
According to officials, the proposed water route would not only reduce travel time between Sindhudurg and Goa but also create new opportunities for tourism growth. Improved connectivity is expected to encourage greater movement of visitors between the two popular coastal destinations, benefiting local businesses and the hospitality sector.
The project is also seen as a step towards enhancing regional maritime transport infrastructure and promoting sustainable coastal travel options.
If implemented, the direct water transport service could become a significant addition to the Konkan region’s transport network, further strengthening tourism and economic ties between Sindhudurg and Goa.
