VASCO: While objecting to shifting of jurisdiction to proposed Zuarinagar Police Station, villagers from Cortalim, Cansaulim and Velsao Village Panchayats issued a memorandum on Monday requesting the Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant, Panchayat Minister, Cortalim MLA and other government officials to retain their existing jurisdiction to Verna Police Station.
All the above panchayats are under the jurisdiction of Verna Police Station for decades.
Cortalim Panch Raymond D’Sa said, “Citizens of Cortalim have strongly raised objection to changing the jurisdiction from Verna Police Station to Zuarinagar. People have requested the Chief Minister and other concerned authorities to immediately revert this decision.”
Cortalim villagers did a signature campaign in this matter and over 700 individuals signed. In a memorandum, the locals have stated that they would like to inform that the current, Verna Police Station, is centrally located and is easily accessible to Cortalim villagers in times of emergencies for many decades.
“As locals of the Cortalim village we are equal stakeholders in all developmental as well as administrative change concerning our village and therefore we demand scrapping the shifting of the above mentioned change in jurisdiction as it will cause huge inconvenience to the Cortalim villagers. We request you to retain Cortalim village jurisdiction under Verna Police Station.
It further said, “We look forward to you upholding the democratic principles of governance by scrapping this change of jurisdiction and in doing so shall respect the concerns of the undersigned locals of Cortalim who are equal stakeholders in developing the village of Cortalim as well as the State.”
According to reliable sources, Cansaulim sarpanch has also written requesting not to shift Cansaulim-Arossim-Cuelim jurisdiction to the newly proposed police station at Zuarinagar, Sancoale.
Velsao-Pale-Issorcim sarpanch has also written a letter urging the concerned authorities not to shift their jurisdiction.
