Accused allegedly gained victim’s trust with promise of marriage before seeking money under the pretext of being detained at an airport.
Quepem Police have registered a case of cheating after a woman from Quepem allegedly lost ₹1.45 lakh to a man she met through the matrimonial website Shaadi.com.

According to police, the accused, identified as Dave Arun, befriended the woman on the platform and gradually gained her trust by expressing his intention to marry her. The two remained in contact, during which the accused allegedly cultivated a close relationship with the victim.
Police said the accused later informed the woman that he had been detained at an airport while carrying foreign currency and urgently required financial assistance to resolve the issue. Believing his claims and trusting him due to their ongoing interactions, the woman allegedly transferred a total of ₹1.45 lakh to him.
After receiving the money, the accused reportedly failed to fulfil his promises, prompting the woman to suspect that she had been deceived. She subsequently approached Quepem Police and lodged a complaint.
Based on her complaint, police have registered a case of cheating and initiated further investigations into the matter. Authorities are also examining the communications exchanged between the victim and the accused as part of the probe.
Police have once again urged the public to exercise caution while interacting with individuals on matrimonial and social networking platforms and to avoid transferring money to persons whose identity and claims have not been independently verified.
