The South Goa Sessions Court on Tuesday convicted Indrajit Godbole (40), a native of Nagpur for killing his 60-year-old mother-in-law Chawlavva Rathod at Cuncolim two years ago.
In this case which was investigated by Cuncolim Police Station In-charge, PI Sidhant Shirodkar, the accused had killed Chawlavva Rathod, a resident of Gadak, Karnataka with a laterite stone. The family were putting up at Batiem-Cuncolim when the incident occurred.
The prosecution had witnessed around 32 witnesses in support of its case.
It was the case of the prosecution that on August 22, 2006, the deceased had just returned back home after reaching one of the sons of the accused to school.
The accused suddenly came inside the house and beat her up and later dumped a stone on her stomach, resulting in her instant death. After committing the offence, the accused fled to Mangalore. At the time of the incident, the wife of the accused had gone out to reach her other son to school.
Incidentally, the Cuncolim police had maintained that the accused and his wife had a scuffle in the house after he demanded money from her, after which he was thrown out of the house.
The accused was later nabbed from Mangalore and was later chargesheeted for the murder of his mother-in-law.
The accused will now be heard on the point of sentence on Wednesday.
