PONDA: Defeated Congress candidate Ravi Naik has hit out at PWD Minister Sudin Dhavalikar for delaying the Ponda Municipal Council (PMC) signature project.
Speaking to reporters after paying tribute to former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, Naik expressed strong resentment over removal of PMC Golden Jubilee signature project foundation stone laid by him during the Congress regime.
“The foundation stone for PMC signature project was laid again on Monday by PWD Minister Sudin Dhavalikar and MG-BJP led PMC Chairperson Radhika Naik without any reason. They are playing low-level politics to take credit for the signature project introduced by me during the Congress rule,” said Naik.
It may be recalled that Naik had laid the foundation stone for the signature project on December 19, 2011, and former chief minister Digambar Kamat had sanctioned Rs 2 crore for the project. However, the project was delayed due to assembly election code of conduct in force at that time.
“The signature project was well planned by the then council led by Kishore Naik, as the old building was to be demolished due to its dilapidated condition. The then Congress-supported council had also got the land by requesting two house owners residing in the signature project area to vacate it for PMC project,” he said.
“But the present MGP-BJP-led council is purposely ignoring the fact behind the signature project under the pretext of modifying it and again laid the foundation stone,” said Naik.
He further said though they have planned to introduce two multiplex theatres in signature project, it shows that the council lacks foresight as there is no place for parking at the project site, which is a small area.Former chairperson Kishore Naik said no approval is taken from the PDA for the multiplex introduced in the new signature project.
