Reginaldo dares CM on Mopa

MARGAO: Asserting that the Congress will oppose the RFQ on Mopa airport floated by the government, Congress MLA Reginaldo Lourenco on Tuesday dared Chief Minister Manohar Parirkar to place the Request for Qualification (RFQ) on Mopa airport before the gram sabhas.

He further challenged the chief Minster to call for an open debate on the Mopa airport instead of holding interactions with select people.
Addressing the media on Tuesday, the Curtorim MLA warned the chief minister not to fool the people of South Goa on the airport issue. “The chief minister should send the RFQ and the Mopa plan to the gram sabhas for a decision. The Congress had sent the Regional Plan to the village gram sabhas, but the chief minister is delaying a decision on the RP,” he said.
Replying to a question, Reginaldo said the Congress would support his stand on the Mopa airport issue.
“The Congress will support my stand against the Mopa airport. I will get the CLP and the GPCC to adopt a stand to oppose Mopa,” he said, while recalling that thought the Congress might have initiated the land acquisition process, the party had later decided to keep the Mopa airport in cold storage.
He said it is not very surprising that the free of cost mining lease renewals and Mopa RFQ have sprung up in the same sequence of events. “Reserving 381 acre or 15 lakh square meters of Mopa land for real estate is also a big scam. It becomes an even bigger scam when rural land is given to builders with five times higher FAR. This means the cronies would be getting land equivalent to 75 lakh square meters.”
