A Committee headed by St Andre MLA Vishnu Surya Wagh, which is inquiring into the suicide of a rape victim who burnt herself last year, has suggested not to make the report public. Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar told the State Legislative Assembly Friday that the report contains startling revelations which was not advisable to be discussed openly.
“There are shocking findings… I have asked him (Wagh) not to disclose it. I will however ensure the legislators get a copy but let the discussion will be held in chamber,” he said.

Parrikar, also the home minister, repeated that several rape cases which happened during the erstwhile Congress-led government were registered during the present regime. He admitted there were certain cases, which are registered as kidnapping, though girls elope with their male partners. “If parents monitor their children, such incidents will not happen. Parents should also tell their children not to get friendly or accept anything from the strangers,” he suggested.
