MERCES: Already faced with shortage of water supply, Ribandar locals have another battle on their hands, with controversial bore wells in the locality.
On Friday, locals gathered at a construction site near Bal Bharati Vidya Mandir, Ribandar where a bore well was being dug and forced stopped the work since workers were unable to produce licences to dig the bore well.
Speaking to Herald, Ribandar Chimbel Rakhonn Somiti member John Lobo said they reached the construction site upon receiving information that a bore well was being drilled and asked workers to produce the licences.
“However, they were unable to do so and we called up the police who ordered the workers to stop the work till they produce necessary documents,” he added.
Stating that locals are already facing water shortage as they hardly get water supply for an hour in a day, John informed Herald that villagers have to depend on wells for their miscellaneous use.
“If builders are allowed to dig bore wells, the water table will go down and the village wells will run dry,” he informed and added that it will affect the villagers, particularly during the summer.
He also questioned how the CCP is giving licences to big housing projects in the area when the water shortage issue is not resolved.
