Rise in Accommodation Options Makes Tourists Less Visible in Goa, Says Michael Lobo

Calangute MLA Michael Lobo on Wednesday responded to concerns about the perceived mismatch between government tourism data and the on-ground situation, stating that while both Indian and foreign tourist arrivals have increased, Goa has also witnessed a significant rise in accommodation options.

Michael said that the proliferation of guest houses, hotels, rental homes and Airbnb properties across the State has given visitors a wider range of choices. This, he noted, often makes the tourist presence appear less concentrated in traditional hotspots.

He pointed out that many coastal residents now rent out their homes and rooms to travellers, further dispersing footfall. Lobo added that fostering better civic sense among locals as well as domestic tourists would help Goa attract more responsible and high-quality visitors.
