PANJIM: The Public Works Department (PWD) has submitted a tentative amount of over Rs 1.40 crore to restore Taleigao hill, which was allegedly cut for construction of a bungalow. The Court also asked the respondent Estonio Francisco De Almeida to deposit another Rs 20 lakh.
During the hearing of a writ petition filed by former Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) mayor Tony Rodrigues, the respondent agreed to deposit with the PWD executive engineer, works division-II, within next six weeks.

Earlier, the PWD in its affidavit stated that the tentative amount of Rs 1,40,47,500 was required to complete the works. This amount will also include the actual expenditure incurred for the said works, which was to be borne by De Almeida. The respondent submitted that he will not to create any third-party rights, sell or dispose of the landed property surveyed under no. 275/1 and no. 276/6 and the house standing on the land surveyed under no.276/6.
Earlier, the Court had directed De Almeida to deposit Rs 60 lakh to restore the hill and to refund the cash amount to the respondent only if the restoration work was completed in accordance with the NGPDA plan and to the satisfaction of the Authority.
The court had also ordered to attach his two luxury cars for recovery of Rs 35 lakh after the respondent failed to comply with his solemn undertaking given to the Court.
The Court has now posted the matter for further hearing on September 3.
