A police inspector informed that they have identified over 80 persons in this connection. One Dinesh Pillai has been arrested and the police have attached his vehicle.
DGP Muktesh Chander visited the spot late Friday night to take stock of the situation. The DGP was informed by the Superintendent of Police that the banners of Tipu Sultan put up at Rumdamol-Davorlim Housing Board and the incidents of motorcycles being set ablaze were connected.
The police were at the crime scene till Saturday to prevent further tension and advised the panchayat and the people to immediately remove the banners.
Further investigations are on.
Meanwhile, the situation in the Davorlim area and Housing Board was calm on Saturday.
Margao PI C L Patil, Maina Curtorim PI Harish Madkaikar, DySP Dinraj Govekar and SP Shekhar Prabhudessai did a commendable job in controlling the situation.
