S Goa police up the ante against matka, public nuisance & tobacco use

MARGAO: South Goa Police have been quite active in booking gambling cases and arresting people for causing menace on the road side in the first six months of the current year. The same is the case when it comes to acting against tobacco use and promotion. And they back this claim by showing that they have booked more number of cases in this time period of January to June 2019, compared to what had happened during January to June, 2018
. This year police have registered 307 matka gambling cases as against the 235 cases registered last year. 
. Incidentally Ponda police who registered 40 matka gambling cases ranked top most followed by Margao Town who registered 39 cases.
. Interestingly while the police registered 11 cases of gambling in other forms this year, last year they had booked only three such cases and Margao Town police registered ranked highest in this having booked four such cases.
. Under Section 34 of the Indian Police Act that empowers police to take action against people causing menace on the roadside and which is mostly used against road side vendors, this year the police registered 3,479 cases as against the 3,398 such cases registered last year.
. Vasco Police station that registered 1,490 such cases ranked top followed by Margao Town police having booked 1,077 cases and in third place was Fatorda Police who registered 225 such cases. 
. Interestingly last year too Vasco police with 1,486 cases and Margao Town police with 1,065 cases were ranked the first two followed by Fatorda who had booked 214 cases.
. Under the Beggars Act this year 358 cases were registered as against the 355 cases registered last year. Incidentally Margao town booked 167 beggars thus ranking first followed by Vasco Police who booked 150 beggars.
. This year police have booked 44 persons under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances act as against 52 such cases booked last year.
. This year having booked 11 cases under NDPS Act, Margao Town police rank top most followed by Vasco police who booked 9 such cases.
. South Goa Police have also been very active against marketing and using tobacco products this year. 
. This year, they have registered 10,230 cases under Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act that also prohibits advertising of tobacco products while last year they had booked 9,272 such cases. 
.Vasco police with 3,298 such cases was ranked first followed by Ponda police who booked 1,349 cases against people advertising tobacco products and in the third place was Margao Town police who booked 1,269 such cases.
. South Goa police booked 11,637 people for smoking and spitting in public places while last year they had booked only 6,186 people for the same crime.
. Most active against smoking in public places has been Vasco Railway police who booked 2,116 persons followed by Colva police who booked 1,868 public smokers and in third position was Ponda police as they booked 1,735 persons.
. Under the Garbage Act wherein people are booked for selling things placed in a plastic bag, police have registered 10,435 cases this year as against the 8,337 cases registered last year. 
. The top three ranking police station for action under this act are Canacona police station that registered 2,155 cases followed by Curchorem police who booked 1,869 cases and in third place was Ponda police who booked 1,794 cases.
. While police booked 79,232 cases under the Motor Vehicles Act this year, last year they had booked 67,732 such cases. 
. Ponda ranked first having booked 10,501 cases under this act followed by Verna police who booked 8,380 such cases and in third position was Vasco police who booked 8,227 such cases.
