PANJIM: Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) has clarified that Manoj Caculo and Suraj Caculo have cleared all outstanding dues pending to the municipality and the list on its website has not been updated.
Herald in its Tuesday (July 9) edition under the heading ‘CCP in Crisis, Hasn’t Recovered Crores in House Tax’ had exposed the defaulters who have not paid huge sums of money in the form of house tax. The total arrears as per the website of the CCP for the year 2017-18 were at Rs 7,48,34,403.
CCP Mayor Uday Madkaikar on Tuesday clarified that the website has not been updated and hence there is a discrepancy in the list of defaulters. He said that Manoj Caculo and Suraj Caculo do not have any outstanding dues pending.
He said, “While the story is true that there are many defaulters with large sums of money yet to be received by the CCP, the website has not been updated. It is an old list and some of the money has been recovered. Our efforts are on to recover the remaining dues too.”
Stating that the Caculo Brothers do not owe the CCP, Uday said, “Manoj Caculo has paid the outstanding in August last year. Since the website has not been updated their names still reflect in the defaulters’ list. It is an error on the CCP’s part.”
