BICHOLIM: The Sanquelim Municipal Council Chief Officer’s order to the owners of the house for submitting their lease agreement has opened Pandora’s Box with people strongly opposing the move.

Addressing a press conference, here, former sarpanch of Sanquelim Pravin Blegan said that the CO has issued orders to the house owners to submit lease agreement if their property is given on lease.
“We want to know on what bases the CO has issued the orders. There is no mention of any section or rule by which it is mentioned that they have to submit the lease agreement,” Blegan said.
As per the order, the owners have to submit the agreement copy within seven days failing which the SMC would file a police complaint against the owner of the house.
“We dare the CO to file police complaints against the house owners and we in turn would file a complaint against him,” Blegan warned. He also came down heavily on SMC ruling council who have recruited new staff when there is financial crunch.
“Just because the government has sanctioned the staff they cannot take the staff when they are already in losses,” Blegan said adding there are 11 new staff who are recruited on contract bases and the agency which recruited it is related to one of the councillor.
He said that the government is talking about ‘Swayampurna’ when they have reduced the powers of the local bodies.
“The new telecom towers are directly under the government and the local bodies would not get any income of the same. Even if there is a petrol pump the income goes to the government and not the panchayat or the municipality,” he informed.
