Bicholim: Prakash Jalmi from Virdi- Sanquelim on Thursday was seriously injured when a speeding truck dashed against his scooter near the Shantadurga circle with the Bicholim Bachao Abhiyan (BBA) questioned the placement of Chhatrapati Shivaji’s statue at the junction.
BBA’s Naresh Kadkade claimed that the accident occurred because of the said placement.
“As per the govt guidelines there should be no obstruction on the main road and it was because of this that we had earlier opposed it. We are never against Shivaji Maharaj but we had opposed it as it could prove to be an accident-prone zone. Who is responsible for this accident wherein a person lost his leg? All those who gave permission to install the statue are responsible for the same,” Kadkade charged
While some blamed the installation of the statue for the accident, a section of people came in support of it.
“It is not because of the statue but due to the improper speed breaker at this place. Traffic signals need to be installed along this busy road,” BMC former councillor Narayan Betkikar added.
