OLD GOA: The suspect detained by police on Monday night in connection with the double murder at Santa Cruz was arrested on Tuesday, while the prime accused and his brother in law are undergoing medical treatment at the Goa Medical College Hospital at Bambolim.
Speaking to Herald, Old Goa Police Inspector Krishna Sinari said the police had arrested Noel Monteiro of Bambolim under sections 302, 307, 452 read wutg 34 IPC, following the brutal murder of Noreen Fernandes e Vaz and her mother-in-law, Aurita Vaz.
It may be recalled that a family dispute over property matters came to a gruesome end when Norman Fernandes of Bambolim had allegedly stabbed his sister, Noreen, and her mother-in-law, Aurita, to death, besides seriously wounding his brother-in-law, Edgar, at their residence in Santa Cruz on Monday night.
Norman is also reported to have inflicted wounds on himself, before fleeing from the site.
“Monteiro will be produced before the Panjim JMFC on Wednesday for remand,” PI Sinari said.
Old Goa Police has also registered an offence against the prime accused, Norman and is on the lookout for another accomplice in the case.
“Police has registered an offence against Norman and two others on charges of committing the murder and also attempting to murder Edgar. At present, Norman is on medical treatment after undergoing a surgery at the GMC and was not in a position to give his statement to the police. We will arrest him on his discharge from the hospital,” Sinari said.
Edgar is also recovering at the GMC from various injuries that he had sustained in the attack.
Meanwhile, an autopsy was conducted on the bodies of Aurita and Noreen on Tuesday
. “The autopsy indicated that Aurita had 10 injuries on her chest, neck, head and abdomen, while Noreen had five injuries on her chest, neck and hands. Both bodies are preserved in the GMC mortuary,” said Sinari.
Police added that the knife used in the brutal murders is yet to be recovered, as Norman was not in a position to reveal the location of the weapon.
