A century old pimpal tree came crashing down on a Santro car at Marlem-Borda early Thursday morning, causing a loss of Rs 1.60 lakh.
The incident occurred when the vehicle owner Simon Rodrigues parked the car outside his residence minutes before the tree crashed down. The fire brigade was later summoned clear the tree.
Ward Councilor Ramdas Hazare said he had moved a proposal before the Margao Municipal Council to cut down old trees in the interest of people’s safety, but lamented that the proposal is still pending with the Civic body.
“If the tree was cut down as per the proposal, the damage to the vehicle would have been saved”, he said, adding that proposals made to the Civic body are normally kept pending by the administration for reasons best known to them.
