A potential financial irregularity has come to light in the Sanvordem Village Panchayat, with Congress leader and Sanvordem constituency block president Sanket Bhandari alleging misuse of public funds.
Bhandari revealed that under the 14th Finance Commission, ₹4.7 lakh was withdrawn for the establishment of a library. However, no library exists at the designated location. Instead, the site, listed as Ganesh Visarjan Suvidha Ashram, reportedly contains only two cupboards and a locked gate, raising serious questions about the utilisation of funds.

“If ₹4.7 lakh was spent for a library, then where are the books, furniture, or any library materials?” Bhandari questioned. He added that local youth have been demanding a library for years, yet the funds appear to have been diverted to a non-existent project.
Bhandari further claimed that other allocations, including benches, gym equipment, and sports materials, are also missing despite funds being drawn for them. He has demanded a detailed inquiry and urged the Panchayat Minister and relevant authorities to take strict action against those allegedly responsible.
The controversy has sparked calls for transparency and accountability in the implementation of Panchayat-funded projects in Sanvordem.
