MARGAO: Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai has questioned why the government had failed to provide a full-time CO to the Margao municipality. He has also slammed the State government over the transfer of MMC Chief Officer Siddhivinayak Naik.
Addressing the Press on Saturday, Sardesai accused the government of forcing the transfer due to the CO’s stand on Shigmo, against the backdrop of a rivalry between two groups. He also pointed out that the BJP government had brought the chief officer and questioned why the government was trying to create instability in the municipality from the outside.
Sardesai also criticised the State government for allegedly bypassing the Quepem and Margao municipalities, where the BJP panels lost, and deciding the route and funds for the Shigmo celebrations.
He said it was time to hold council meetings more often and at public places like Lohia Maidan to strengthen the public movement as the State government seemed to be ignoring the decisions of the MMC.
Sardesai added that he would also attend the council meetings and that earlier he had not attended the same as it was important for the council to work independently. However, he added that the demand for a full-time chief officer and other demands were not being met.
