PONDA: A truck overturned and fell onto its side late Friday night on the Dhavalim-Farmagudi bypass, reigniting concerns over the dangerous road conditions on the stretch. The incident occurred around midnight as the truck was negotiating the sharp turn of the flyover slope near Gracias Garden, leaving the driver injured. Fortunately, no other vehicles were involved, and no injuries were reported.

The flyover, which has seen a number of similar accidents since the highway was upgraded to a four-lane road, has become a hot spot for dangerous self-accidents. Locals report that the turn is particularly challenging for heavy vehicles, which often lose control and veer off course, damaging road dividers and posing a risk to commuters travelling in the opposite direction. While there have been no reported fatalities from oncoming traffic so far, residents remain
deeply concerned about the growing frequency of these incidents.
Surel Tilve, a local resident said, “This sharp turn has been the site of multiple accidents over the years. The slope is difficult for heavy trucks to negotiate, and it causes them to lose control and flip over. The faulty engineering here is a serious risk.”
Despite the road’s recent upgrade from two lanes to four, accidents continue on the dangerous road stretch. Locals recall incidents, including one involving a tanker carrying fuel for airplanes, which led to a major fire a decade ago. They argue that the engineering flaws have not been addressed adequately, leading to a pattern of recurring accidents.
“Even when the bypass was only two lanes, accidents were frequent. Now that it’s four lanes, things haven’t improved. We need immediate action to make this road safer,” another resident said.
