Scrap worth Rs 12 lakh gutted at Colvale

Scrap worth Rs 12 lakh was gutted in a fire which broke out in a scrap yard at Colvale Industrial Estate on Tuesday afternoon.
According to Mapusa Fire Service station personnel, they received a call from Ashapura Enterprises from Colvale Industrial Estate at about 2 pm about the fire.
The fire personnel led by Fire Officer Nitin Raikar rushed to the spot and started their operation.
The fire personnel said they managed to extinguish the fire within an hour and 12 fire tenders were required to douse the flames. Apart from Mapusa, fire tenders from Bicholim, Pernem and Panjim were requisitioned.
Speaking to Herald, Fire Officer Nitin Raikar said scrap worth about Rs 12 lakh was destroyed in the fire, but they could save property worth Rs 15 lakh, as there were numerous small industrial units alongside the scrap yard.
“The exact cause of fire in not known. The magnitude of fire was so big that services of 40 fire personnel and 12 fire tenders were required to extinguish the fire,” said Raikar.
