Second tower at Rumdamoll takes a ‘political turn’

The dispute over the mobile tower at Rumdamoll Davorlim besides being a political issue threatens to turn into a communal dispute if not handled adroitly at the extraordinary gram sabha meeting scheduled for August 6. The genesis of this problem lies in the application dated March 2, 2017 made by Synaptic Integrated to erect a mobile tower in Plot No. 72 where the Khajabi Manzil building stands. The panchayat, following an inspection, issued a NOC on April 4, 2017 with a proviso to get the necessary permissions or NOCs from other concerned authorities.
However on April 12, 2017, one Laxmi Talwar complained that the applicant had not received the required permissions or NOC from other departments following which the panchayat issued a stop work notice on April 15, 2017 and later issued a show cause notice on July 25, 2017 asking why the tower should not be demolished. Some panchayat members and villagers are now demanding that if this mobile tower is to be demolished then the other one erected in 2008 should also be demolished.
In 2008 a mobile tower was erected by one Purshottam Sanzgiri.
“The villagers will take the final decision on this matter at the extraordinary gram sabha meeting on Sunday August 6, said Sarpanch Safiya Bi Shaikh.
