PANJIM: In view of heavy shopping rush for Ganesh Chaturthi festival in the capital, the Traffic Department has converted selected roads around Panjim market into one-way to ease traffic congestion. The police have also urged the motorists to follow road discipline.
The existing two-way traffic on General Bernard Guedes Road from Directorate of Health Junction, Campal, up to the Main Gate of Panjim Market Complex will be one-way wherein only heavy vehicles, after unloading food grains/other commodities in market will be allowed to proceed to Dayanand Bandodkar Marg via Inox.
In another arrangement, vehicles approaching General Bernard Guedes Road from fish market lane will not be allowed to take right turn towards Directorate of Health Services. Instead, these vehicles will be allowed to proceed towards H S Road or S V Road to proceed to D B B Marg.
Similarly, vehicles from General Bernard Guedes Road will not be allowed to proceed on Governador Pestana Road towards Don Bosco High School. In addition to this, the vehicles from Governador Pestana Road will not be allowed to proceed towards Directorate of Health Services via Gen Bernard Guedes Road and will be diverted towards H S Road.
“There is a likelihood of Traffic Congestion in Panjim Market area. To prevent traffic congestion and loss of time in traffic congestion and to enable smooth movement of vehicular traffic in and around Panaji Market, the Traffic Police have decided to convert some of these roads around the Market in to one ways during Ganesh Chaturthi with effect from Friday,” the press statement mentions explaining the diversion.
The Traffic Police have urged the general public to cooperate with them to ensure smooth flow of vehicular traffic during Ganesh Chaturthi in the capital city.
“The general public are also requested to park their vehicles in the designated parking lots. Those vehicles are parked at unauthorised places and cause hindrance to the smooth movement of vehicular will be towed away with towing crane or will be clamped with the help of wheel clamps,” the department warned.
