PANJIM: Residents living in Zarina Towers at St Inez have raised concerns over the overflow of household sewage waters on the streets. This has caused significant difficulties for the residents while traveling.

The issue has persisted for the past month, and despite filing multiple complaints, no action has been taken to resolve the problem.
According to the residents, substandard work done by the Smart City project has resulted in poor drainage from the main pipeline, leading to sewage water overflowing onto the streets. Dr Gautam Khandeparkar, a St Inez resident, said,” The household sewage water has been overflowing on the streets for the last one month. There are four buildings- A, B,C and D. The chamber near the A building is overflowing. Sewage Department personnel suctioned the chamber twice but it did not solve the problem completely.”
“The problem is that due to smart city work, the water flows back from the main chamber. It is because there is no drainage. The connectivity has not been given to houses as the work is not completed yet,” he said.
Dr Khandeparkar said he has written to Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) Mayor Rohit Monserrate urging him to hold a joint inspection along with the official of Sewage Department and resolve the issue.
