PANJIM: The villagers of Old Goa have objected to the frequent transfers of panchayat secretaries and now they have now opposed to the recent appointment of Subodh Prabhu as the panchayat secretary of the Se Old Goa village panchayat.

The villagers said that the government’s decision to appoint a new panchayat secretary ahead of the Exposition had caused distress and apprehension among them. Glen Cabral, a villager alleged that Prabhu had a history of allegations related to corruption and misconduct which raise serious doubts about his ability to manage public funds and affairs with integrity and in the interest of the village.
The villagers stated that the government was transferring panchayat secretary frequently when as per the government guidelines, the government servants completing three years at one place as on March 31 should normally be transferred. Prabhu was transferred and posted at Se Old Goa panchayat last month, in place of Rupesh Halarnkar, who has now been posted as panchayat secretary of St Estevam village panchayat.
The Old Goa villagers have submitted their representations to the Chief Minister, Panchayat Minister, Secretary (Panchayats) and the Director of Panchayats.
