One held for subjecting dog to cruelty

PANJIM: The Mapusa Police on Thursday arrested a Karnataka native for allegedly dragging a dog tied to his motorcycle on a tarred road.

The accused has been identified as Ashok Ningappa Panhalkar, resident of Ghateshwarnagar, Khorlim, and native of Belgaum, Karnataka.

The Mapusa police had on Wednesday booked the accused under Section 325 of BNS and Section 11 (1)(a) (d) of Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act for subjecting a dog to suffering and cruelty by dragging it on tar road by tying it to his motorcycle.

However, the accused was released on bail on the same day, police said, adding further investigation is in progress.
