MARGAO: With market vendors expressing serious reservations over the pay parking proposal, the South Goa Planning and Development Authority (SGPDA) on Monday once again deferred the introduction of the pay-parking scheme from today.
The parking proposal will now be placed before the PDA technical committee headed by member MLA Vijai Sardessai before the same is introduced in the market.
When the Green Goa Works expressed its intention to start the scheme in the market on Monday, market vendors raised a host of apprehensions that the concept will affect their business. They asked the officials to convince them via a presentation that the concept will not affect their business.
SGPDA Member Secretary Rajesh Naik told Herald that the vendors expressed their reservations and the PDA has decided to address them before starting the scheme. Accordingly, the PDA has decided to place the proposal before the Technical Committee which is scheduled to meet on July 10 next week. “We have decided to defer the implementation of the scheme since the PDA does not want to bulldoze its way. We want to take the market vendors and the people into confidence over the scheme,” he added.
This is the second time that the PDA has decided to defer implementation of the pay-parking. The PDA had decided to charge Rs 5 and Rs 2 for four-wheelers and two-wheelers parked inside the market complex.
