MARGAO: Come May 2, and Margao’s South Goa Planning and Development Authority’s mega market at Old market will undergo a thorough re-orientation.

The Green Goa Foundation workers were busy on Wednesday, drawing lines in the fruit and vegetable markets to ensure that vendors keep the corridors obstruction free.

The MMC is expected to send its anti-encroachment squad to clear corridors and passages from encroachments. While the drive will be basically taken up the vegetable and fruit markets, the fish market will be taken up in phase II during the fishing ban period.

Claude Alvares said the GGF workers will ensure that PWD water will reach the market after a span of 13 years. “Our first job with the water is to clean the market with it! The High Court is also insisting that all encroachments be removed”, Alvares said.

The SGPDA has plans to white wash the market buildings and has plans to collect waste generated from the stalls eight times a day via a vehicle.
