PANJIM: The Congress party Wednesday demanded the suspension of senior government officers Narayan Navti and Johnson Fernandes for sharing the political platform with sitting MLA Lavoo Mamledar during a press conference in connection with the ensuing Ponda Municipal elections.

Addressing a press conference at the party headquarters, spokesman Sudip Tamhankar said a complaint has already been made to the Goa State Election Commissioner and Vigilance Department, in this regard.

“They (both officers) should be transferred or suspended for sharing the political platform with the MLA. We have submitted graphic proof that appeared in the newspapers, to the authorities for initiating action,” he told reporters.

While Navti is the Administrator, Fernandes is Chief Officer of Ponda Municipal Council PMC.

The complaint letter, a copy of which was circulated to media persons during the briefing, raised apprehensions that such an instance will probably lead to partiality in the elections.

“In view of the seriousness of the above, you are requested to immediately take action against Navti and Fernandes by suspending them and/or transferring them immediately out of the PMC as their action has rendered them unfit to continue to hold their official positions under the PMC as there are likely to act in a biased and favourable manner during the election of the panel of the politician whose dais they have shared,” reads the letter.

Tamhankar also accused the two officers of misusing the government machinery for political purpose.
