VASCO: The people of Sancoale have expressed anger over the shifting of the St Joseph Vaz feast venue from the sanctuary in Sancoale. The people have met the authorities at the Archbishops office requesting permission to offer mass at the Sanctuary at Sancoale.
Parishioners of Sancoale had a token protest against these changes earlier this week. The Sanctuary at Sancoale was established in 1934.
The people have complained that the villagers have been sidelined in the major decisions of the sanctuary and have not been informed while shifting the feast venue. The villagers had written to the Archbishop’s office to allow them to repair and protect the dilapidated statue of St Joseph Vaz at the Sanctuary in Sancoale. However, they have been denied permissions for that too. The people have said that if there is a plan to close down the Sanctuary then it can be done but they should be allowed to offer mass there.
“We will be forced to offer mass here on Fridays and Sundays with placards to protest regarding the closing down of the Sanctuary, shifting the feast and sidelining of the original people of Sancoale who have revered the St Joseph Vaz sanctuary for several years,” said Carmo Goes. The people have requested the rector of the Sancoale sanctuary to think about the people and their faith in St Joseph Vaz.
