During the official ‘Prerna Diwas’ programme, Sports and Culture Minister Govind Gaude delivered a scathing critique of the Goa government’s handling of tribal welfare, particularly highlighting the failure to fulfill long-standing promises made to the tribal community. He expressed deep disappointment over the years-long delay in constructing the much-anticipated ‘Tribal Bhavan’ project, stressing its importance as a dedicated space for tribal children and rural residents. Gaude lamented the administration’s lack of commitment and follow-through, pointing to this stalled project as emblematic of the government’s broader neglect of tribal concerns.
Gaude further condemned the Tribal Welfare Department, which falls under Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, accusing it of inefficiency, corruption, and systemic mismanagement. He alleged that bribes are exchanged to process contractor files and demanded accountability for the misuse of public funds. Warning that the tribal community’s patience is waning, Gaude called for renewed agitation to demand justice, including political reservation and the resolution of forest rights claims. He criticized successive governments for exploiting the ST community for votes while failing to deliver meaningful change, insisting that legal reforms and genuine administrative will are urgently needed.
