MARGAO: with the delimitation exercise reserving Velim for OBC women, sitting ZP member Anthony Rodrigues has fielded his sister in law Mency Rodrigues for the Velim seat.
The Zilla Panchayat member accompanied his sister-in-law to the office of the Returning Officer with his supporters to fill the nomination papers as an Independent candidate. “Since I was ruled out form the contest because of the reservation, my supporters told me to field by sister in law,” Anthony said, adding that that people of Velim have requested him to filed his sister in law and defeat the communal forces who are out to foment trouble under the guise of Ghar wapsi, attacks on Churches and Mother Thereza.
Meanwhile, Eulogio Gomes has decided to take on GVP candidate and sitting ZP Chairperson Nelly Rodrigues for the Colva seat. Eulogio filed his papers before the Returning officer accompanied by his brother Elvis.
Amongst others who have filed their nomination papers on Thursday includes Conccessao Dias (Curtorim), Meera Colaco (Raia), Meenakshi Goankar (Guirdolim) and Tousif Sheikh (Davorlim).
