PANJIM: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said though there are various difficulties being faced while executing Smart City works but officials concerned have been directed to complete the work as per the target.
”We have instructed the engineers of Public Works Department (PWD) and Smart City Mission to complete the work on fast pace. There are various difficulties while executing the work but we will achieve the target,” he told reporters after holding a review meeting of the Smart City work.
The Chief Minister said, ”The work might be delayed slightly but the deadline for completion of the work is till May 31. We will achieve the target. Engineers of PWD, GSIDC and Imagine Panaji Smart City have been instructed to work on fast pace. I am satisfied with the work.”
Imagine Panaji Smart City Development Ltd (IPSCDL) chief executive officer (CEO) and managing director (MD) Sanjit Rodrigues, IAS, said, ”There are some challenges in terms of work issue, delay in manholes because of water tables, tide. In Ribandar, even though we have changed the technology, yet the water tide is hampering work. The tide levels are really high. Trenching is not possible. So there have been some backlogs as far as manholes are concerned.”
“We are trying to increase labour strength, night shifts as per the instructions of the Chief Minister. We are going to monitor the contractors across shifts. Apart from that, most of the works are being viewed favourably. In certain areas, we are progressing well but in some areas we are lagging behind. However, we are confident that we will complete the work as per the schedule,” he said.
Rodrigues said the work is being delayed for different reasons like jatra, encroachments or some other requests made by the people.
He said the work at St Inez area will be completed before beginning of the Holy Week.
