PANJIM: Panjim city has received Rs 147 crore from the Central government under Smart City Mission and Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) since June 2017. Imagine Panjim Smart City Development Limited (IPSCDL), the special purpose vehicle for mission execution, is awaiting State share of Rs 111 crore under Smart City Mission.
Speaking to media persons on Wednesday, IPSCDL chief executive officer (CEO) Swayandipta Pal Chaudhari said that Central Government (Union Ministry for Urban Development) has released an amount of Rs 111 crore under Smart City Mission and another Rs 36 crore under AMRUT mission.
“Under smart city, the amount equivalent to that of Central share is due from the State government. The Budgetary provision is made and it is expected to be released shortly,” he said.
He explained that while the city Smart City proposal is worth Rs 1,000 crore, under AMRUT mission, the Centre has sanctioned Rs 209 crore to be spent over a period of five years. “Under smart city, the fund utilisation is very minimal as we are yet to take big projects. But in case of AMRUT, we have spent half the amount of the total Rs 36 crore released to us,” Chaudhari informed.
“We are ensuring that the money is spent judiciously and in a transparent manner so that the output we get has value for money,” CEO said.
Meanwhile, IPSCDL director Sidharth Kuncalienkar informed that SPV is awarded with Incentive award of Rs three crore by the Centre for their performance in reform sector under the mission. “We will hand over the amount to Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar towards state exchequers on January 26,” he said.
