MARGAO: South Goa Superintendent of police (SP) Shekhar Prabudesai has sought details on the allegation that Cuncolim police, recently, let off four Kerala boys who were allegedly caught with drugs at the Balli railway station.
On Wednesday, Cuncolim Police Inspector Ram Asre gave a thorough update of the episode to Margao DySP Mohan Naik and the SP. Sources said the PI stood by his actions in the case. When contacted Asre said he did not wish to comment on the matter.
Police sources added that they can bring in people for questioning by following the law and that in the case of witnesses, it was for them to voluntary inform the police and be willing to officially come on record about what they had seen.
On the question of recording statements of eyewitnesses, police sources stated that when the investigating officer was present, no witness came forward to share their account.
Further, police sources also raised doubts on the version presented by the man claiming to be a Punjab policeman and on whether the boys were carrying drugs and not tobacco instead.
