MARGAO: There’s good news in store for the South Goa Zilla Panchayat on development front.
Upon instructions from the Chief Minister, Manohar Parrikar, the zilla panchayat has floated tenders of works amounting to Rs four crore. And South Goa ZP Chairperson Nelly Rodrigues said the Chief Minister has promised to grant additional aid to the district panchayat body by making budgetary provision at the time of supplementary budget. “We have floated the tenders for works amounting to Rs four crore after the Chief Minister issued instructions to sanction the funds,” Nelly told Herald.
The South Goa district panchayat body Chairperson had a meeting with the Chief Minister to discuss the entire gamut of issues plaguing the Zilla Panchayats, including its powers, functions and funds.
While the Chief Minister has promised additional funds, the question of giving additional staff is unlikely to be met in the near future. “I had asked the Chief Minister to give additional manpower, especially because we wanted to take the work of the District Planning Committee forward. But the Chief Minister has maintained that the government itself is facing a manpower crunch. We will have to wait for some time to get the manpower,” Nelly added.
