PANJIM: State cabinet on Wednesday gave its nod for the formation of special Directorate of Civil Aviation to regulate all aviation issues including airport and immigration.
The Directorate will replace the existing airport cell, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar informed.
Parrikar said that the Directorate would have greater financial and operational authority than the existing Director of airport. It would not only take care of airport and related infrastructure but will also look into the issues of immigration, visa on arrival and other aviation and travel issues, he added.
“Its main functions would be to regulate and better manage civil aviation matters. The process for its formation will start soon,” the Chief Minister said. Government had constituted separate cells for both Dabolim and proposed Greenfield international airport at Mopa. Now both will come under the Directorate of Civil aviation.
In yet another decision, Cabinet has hiked the ex gratia for lineman from the electricity department working either on contract or permanent basis in case of death and other major injuries from existing Rs 2 lakh to Rs 5 lakh. Parrikar said that government had announced this during the last assembly session and accordingly the decision has been taken.
