Special POCSO Court Rejects Bail of Thivim Man Accused of Raping 80-Year-Old Woman

A Special POCSO Court has dismissed the bail application of a man from Thivim, who was arrested by Colvale police in June 2025 for allegedly raping an 80-year-old woman on multiple occasions.

While rejecting the bail plea, the court observed that “the offence is extremely heinous as it is committed against the helpless senior citizen lady who lived alone,” underscoring the gravity of the charges against the accused.

According to the prosecution, the accused allegedly took advantage of the victim’s age and vulnerable condition to repeatedly commit the offence. The court noted that considering the seriousness of the allegations and the impact on the victim, the accused does not deserve the discretionary relief of bail at this stage.

The accused continues to remain in judicial custody as further proceedings in the case are underway.
