Sr Rane ‘cheesed’ over sanctuaries

“Declare entire Goa as wildlife”, Leader of Opposition Pratapsing Rane blurted out on the floor of the House in a fit of pique, expressing his displeasure over Forest Minister Alina Saldanha’s reply that department has no control over movement of wild animals into populated areas.

Participating in the Question Hour discussion, Rane brought to the notice of the House that large number of wild animals enter inhabited areas and destroy fields. He sought to know what steps the government intends to initiate to control the same.
While stating that Forest Department has initiated several steps like installation of electrical fencing, digging trenches, Alina admitted that ‘in general it is not possible for the Forest Department to control the movement of all wild animals’, to which Rane reacted rather uncharacteristically.
