PANJIM: Complying with Supreme Court directions, the Goa Government has fixed two-hour timing, one hour each early morning and evening, to burst the firecrackers on the day of Diwali (November 6).
According to a notification issued by the Environment Director, the public are allowed to burst fire crackers from 4.30am to 5.30 am and between 7 pm and 8 pm on November 6.
For other days during the festival period from November 7 to 8, the time for bursting of fire crackers is strictly restricted between 8pm and 10 pm only.
“The police station incharge of the respective police station shall be fully responsible for implementation of the Supreme Court directions,” Environment Director Ravi Jha said.
The Supreme Court earlier last week gave State Governments the flexibility to choose timing for bursting firecrackers but stuck to its earlier restriction of allowing it for only two hours on festival days.
In its earlier order on October 23, the apex court had allowed bursting of firecrackers between fixed time slots from 8 pm to 10 pm for Diwali and between 11.55 pm and 12.30 am on other occasions such as Christmas and New Year.
The Court had modified its order following plea from Tamil Nadu government seeking review.
