MARGAO: Margao was plunged into an unprecedented traffic jam around noon after a KTC bus was involved in an accident at the Old market area near the Criminal Court building.
Margao Traffic PI Prabodh Shirwaikar claimed that the KTC bus was left stranded on the road as both the driver and the conductor fled after the accident. To make matters worse, the bus could not start for a considerable time because of low battery problem.
By the time the battery problem was rectified, a huge serpentine queue of vehicles was formed along the Abade Faria road and the old Presentation High School road, throwing traffic management haywire.
PI Shirwaikar admitted that it took considerable time to bring back the traffic in order, not before the two roads were blocked with stranded vehicles. “It is shocking that the bus driver and the conductor left the bus after the accident. And, more shocking was the fact that the bus battery was low”, PI Shirwaikar added.
The city also witnessed a rush of vehicles throughout Monday with outstation vehicles heading to the city, especially from across the Karnataka border.
Margao traffic cops have received around 90 GHRDC security personnel to regulate the traffic in the next three days as the regular traffic cops have been requisitioned
for traffic duties at the Sunburn festival and Old Goa
Exposition.
